When we first arrived at the Waraich residence, it was a blank expanse of lawn that the clients rarely used. There was nothing inviting them outside, and when they entertained, their guests remained crammed on the back deck rather than moving down into the yard.
We came up with a plan that included a circular stone patio with a planting sill to soften it's edges, which would then lead down two steps to the rest of the garden. The patio is large enough for a small gathering, and it's upper and lower walls act as extra seating for larger gatherings. The open, rounded shape of the lawn appears as open arms, inviting the visitor into the rest of the garden.
