When we first arrived on site at this residence, the home was under construction and the garden was, at best, in disarray. But already this space had a very peaceful, natural feel to it, with towering firs, twisting arbutus, and gnarled garry oaks. This kind of natural landscape is rare in the city, and we wanted to preserve and enhance it as much as possible.
We came up with a plan that had a modern feel to compliment the linear aesthetic of the new residence, which also included the large lawn and patio on the homeowners wish list.. To provide continuity and order the various garden areas were connected by natural stone and concrete pathways.
We used primarily native plants for installation throughout the new design. In this location it was also necessary to choose deer-proof plants in order not to provide the local deer with salad. There were also several natural rock outcroppings, which we highlighted as features to further enhance the natural elements within the new landscape.
The result was a space in which the home, patio and lawn areas became the centrepiece for which the backdrop was a beautiful west coast forest: peaceful, beautiful and natural.
