This small urban lot was orignially landscaped with steep concrete steps and a concrete patio that emphasized the square shape of the lot. There were no focal points within the yard, which led the eye to the garage and the neighbours on both sides.
In order to create the illusion of a larger space, a diagonal theme was adopted for the new cedar steps. deck and flagtsone patio. To add vertical interest and create focal points within the garden, the deck was raised and rock walls were built to house raised planting beds. The result is a feeling of privacy and serenity, as the garden has become a living extension of the home.
